March 18, 2004 By: Edie Vadim Storybook Weddings Await at Atlanta's Historic Georgian Terrace HotelOld world elegance, romance and superior service come together at the historic Georgian Terrace Hotel to create the storybook wedding setting every bride dreams about. With facilities dating back to 1911, guests are swept away to the southern charm of the past in the heart of Atlanta's bustling Midtown district. As one of the only hotels in Atlanta listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, The Georgian Terrace Hotel is where dreams of fairytale weddings come true. Offering a wide variety of specialized services, The Georgian Terrace Hotel is an unparalleled location for weddings with its uniquely designed ballrooms unlike that of any other hotel in Atlanta. Attentive service and a commitment to excellence are hallmarks of The Georgian Terrace Hotel, where its professional staff is dedicated to developing a one-of-a-kind event tailored to suit each individual's unique needs. From planning a special menu and choosing exquisite flowers to delivering gift baskets to wedding guests when they check-in and organizing babysitting services, The Georgian Terrace Hotel takes care of every detail - turning your wedding into the most romantic occasion. The Georgian Terrace Hotel is the quintessential Atlanta venue, says Kourtney Coleman of K. Coleman Wedding & Events. It speaks of the history of Atlanta, with its old-world charm. Many of my clients find that the hotel offers all the qualities to help make a wedding weekend a success. The hotel staff and I have the same philosophy of providing high quality service and products to our clients. The most popular ceremony and reception setting in the hotel is the immaculate Grand Ballroom, site of the Gone with the Wind premier in 1939. The Grand Ballroom epitomizes all the grace and grandeur of the entire hotel. Here, guests can gaze at the stunning Italian crystal chandeliers and watch soft natural sunlight from the terrace illuminate the hall's subtle hues of yellow jasmine, willow green and scarlet rose. Plush carpet, fine silk draperies flowing from towering 20-foot Palladian windows, and ceiling frescos accentuate the ballroom's European style elegance. The Grand Ballroom, featuring 4,000 square-feet, conjures images of bygone era. Its elegant décor does not need enhancement, like many other hotel ballrooms, yet it is flexible enough to accommodate any bride's dream, says Coleman. The space is perfect for elegant seated dinners, complete with white glove service, or heavy hors d'oeuvre buffets. The Grand Ballroom, along with the Ponce de Leon Room, can accommodate receptions up to 400 guests. The elegance of the Ponce de Leon Room makes it one of the most beautiful public rooms in Atlanta. The 1,500 square-foot room can accommodate 125 for a reception and 75 for a seated banquet. Originally designed as part of the hotel lobby, the room was re-furbished and re-fashioned into a private, intimate ballroom, and is often used as the pre-function space for large receptions in the Grand Ballroom. Facing the corner of Atlanta's famous Peachtree Street and Ponce de Leon Avenue, the room features a rotunda with chandelier, 20-foot Palladian windows, ornamental plaster columns, ceiling frescos, a wrought-iron balcony, and French doors that open to the hotel's wrap-around terrace. The stately Piedmont Ballroom, featuring 2,800 square-feet, is perfect for intimate ceremonies and smaller receptions. The room complements the splendor of the hotel's original Grand Ballroom with its 20-foot Palladian-style windows, polished hardwood floors, stunning crystal chandeliers and a unique crescent shaped lighted ceiling. The neutral columned interior provides a canvas to create any style event. The pre-function space, just outside the ballroom, with its bright walls, original tiled floors and fabulous murals, is the perfect gathering spot, and also serves as a popular photo location for the bride and groom. The Piedmont Ballroom and Piedmont Foyer can accommodate receptions up to 200 guests. The Georgian Terrace Hotel was a dream come true for my wedding, said Lynda Lee-Petrylak, former bride. I really wanted to get married in the city, but at the same time, feel like I was miles away. The Georgian Terrace Hotel allowed me to have both. At the end of the night, The Georgian Terrace Hotel allows the bride and groom to conveniently slip upstairs to their honeymoon suite, knowing that their guests will also a short and safe trip home. Couples can even request the rooms that Rhett Butler and Vivian Leigh once stayed in while they were in Atlanta for the premier of Gone with the Wind. The bride and groom also receive complete access to the hotel to take stunning and memorable pictures. Favorite locations are high above the clouds beside the rooftop pool and outside on the grand terrace overlooking Peachtree Street. The Georgian Terrace Hotel was, without question, the perfect location my husband and I were looking for to hold our wedding reception, said Lee-Petrylak. We didn't want a banquet setting, but still wanted the benefits of staying in a hotel, and The Georgian Terrace Hotel offered all this and much, much more.
